It just struck me how similar both sets of communities are - and there's a great deal of strength in numbers. Anyway, that's all theoretical and I wouldn't expect anything to come of it unless the owner/admin of NHL 04 ever contacted me. It would be pretty straightforward to integrate NHL 04 into TBL. Theoretically, a merging of TBL and NHL 04 would be very beneficial to both communities because we all love hockey (ensuring plenty of activity in the hockey and general discussion forums) and there would be users from each community who would potentially be interest in the other community's game.īringing NHL 04 into TBL would not be that hard as I'm currently working on redesigning the entire site ( see here). Thus we're mulling over whether/how we can diversify to ensure the longevity of the site. If the fanbase declines then it will quickly spiral into the end for the community - which would be such a shame for TBL or NHL 04. The difficulty is that it's a niche and you rely on mainly die hard fans to keep that community going. Overall it's a faster, more arcade-style game.
NHL 09 is essentially the PS2's NHL 07 with a few new features. It's a slower, tighter checking game with low puck control, difficult passing, very aggressive AI, and goalies who stop everything. NHL 2004 is a far stretch from anything that's ever been produced by EA. The one you choose will depend on what style of game you prefer.

You'll primarily find recent mods for two games: NHL 09 (the last PC release) and NHL 2004 (cult classic). What you'll wind up with is a game that, in some respects at least, looks better than the Xbox360's NHL 2K6, but one that does not really compare to the current gen EA NHL games. In terms of graphics they can really only up the texture resolution until the game engine hits its maximum.
